Fried Green Tomatoes with Lemon Basil Horseradish Sauce

This is a very cozy snack!
Fried green tomatoes are a nice light appetizer.  I will admit, I tried to think of a nice sauce to go with these fried green tomatoes.  I thought of a couple of classic flavors like lemon and basil.  Why not horseradish too?  Zesty, light, lively flavor is what horseradish adds to the dipping sauce.
Recipe:  Cut a green tomato into 1/4 inch thick slices.
Dredge the tomato slices in flour.
Dredge the floured slices in egg wash.
Dredge the slices in fine bread crumbs that are seasoned with sea salt and black pepper.
Fry the breaded green tomato slices in 360 degree oil till they are light brown in color.
Drain the excess oil off of the fried tomatoes onto a dry towel.
Lemon Basil Horseradish Sauce Recipe:  Place 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise into a mixing bowl.
Add 3 tablespoons of sour cream.
Add a generous squeeze of lemon juice.
Add sea salt and white pepper.
Add a small spoonful of finely minced fresh basil.
Add a small spoonful of horseradish.  (Horse radish is a very strong flavor.  Only use a dab of horseradish, or the only flavor you can taste in the sauce will be horseradish.)
     Mix the ingredients together.
Assembly:  Place the fried green tomatoes slices on a piece of leaf lettuce on a plate.
Put the lemon basil horseradish sauce into a ramekin and set it in the plate.
Garnish the ramekin with lemon slices.
Refreshingly great!  Fried green tomatoes are a southern tradition.  They give off a fried egg plant aroma when cooked.  The sauce is perfect for fried green tomatoes.  I was thinking of making a Sauce Albert, but a chilled sauce would have been better.  A balance of horseradish lemon and basil turned out to be a nice match!  Wasn't there a movie called "Fried Green Tomatoes" or something?  LOL ...  Shawna
