Mozzarella Carrozza

This is a simple traditional Italian recipe that is so much more formal than fried cheese sticks.  Most franchise fried cheese sticks only appeal to drunken customers and people who don't mind poor quality.  If you like quality fried mozzarella then this recipe is for you!
Recipe:  Cut some fresh mozzarella cheese into thick slices.  Dredge the cheese slices in flour.  Dip them in egg wash.  Dredge the egg dippe cheese slices in bread crumbs that are seasoned with sea salt, black pepper and oregano.
Heat some blended olive oil in a saute pan over medium high heat.  Pan fry the breaded sliced mozzarella in the hot oil.  This breaded cheese fries very quickly.  Flip the breaded cheese so both sides cook.
It only takes a few minutes to fry this breaded cheese.  You do not want to fry for too long of a time because the cheese will melt and leak out of the breading.
Remove the fried cheese from the oil and drain off the excess grease onto a dry towel.
Spoon a little bit of warm salsa pomodoro on the center of a plate so it forms a circle shaped bed for the fried mozzarella.  (Salsa pomodoro recipe was posted at my recipe blog on 11/12/2010 in the Calamari e Salsa Pomodoro recipe.)  Set the mozzarella carrozza on top of the sauce.
This is a delicious appetizer.  The milk still "weeps" from the fresh warm mozzarella.  Mild cheese flavors and a great tomato sauce are a very delicious combination.  Ciao baby!  ...  Shawna
